Telemar will have to pay compensation of R$5,000 to a consumer for having incorrectly included her name on Serasa's list of debtors. Gilsiane Melo de Oliveira was never a customer of the telephone operator. Even so, she was accused of not paying monthly fees for a telephone line. The judge of the 3rd Civil Court of Rio de Janeiro, Maria Cristina Gutiérrez, explained that the system that Telemar uses to distribute telephone lines — just provide your name, CPF and installation address, without confirming the data — allows fraud and, even though it was victim of several scams, the company did not change the system. The judge concluded that the company prefers to maintain this biased system because not all those harmed seek justice. Therefore, it is more profitable to pay any compensation and continue with the maneuver than to simply correct the method.
The case of the Porto Ferreira teenagers had been investigated since August 2003. At the time, the Police discovered that on Mondays, between 10 am and 8 pm, the girls participated in parties with the accused. The meetings took place on farms and ranches in the rural area of the city and the properties were rented by councilors Luiz Borceda, João Lázaro, Evaldo Biffi and Laércio Storti. According to Belize Email List investigations, 12 teenagers, aged between 13 and 16, were co-opted in front of the Dr. Djalma Forjaz State School to participate in “barbecues”. At the farms, they were offered cash ranging from R$30 to R$50 to have sexual relations or participate in orgies with the accused. “It was also found that the girls were supplied with narcotic substances and alcoholic beverages were completely free at the festivities.
The men roamed naked around the farms and ranches and, at all times, demonstrated their interest in performing sexual acts with the victims, insistently offering them money for this purpose”, points out the complaint offered by prosecutors Cássio Roberto Conserino and Tânia Serra Azul Guimarães. “Finally, the accused used every artifice to corrupt the sexual mores of the minors, even promising them jobs in exchange for carnal favors, in addition to offering them entry into clubs in this city. Many of the girls went to the place just to eat meat and subjected themselves to sexual relations for financial needs”, added the representatives of the Public Ministry. Convicted In January of this year, the waiter and deputy councilor Valter de Oliveira Mafra, accused of being the teenagers' agent, was sentenced to 67 years in prison.
